Counseling
Therapy
The Therapy Department of the Child & Family
Support Center of Cache County,
Inc. offers individual counseling,
play therapy, family counseling,
group therapy, women’s workshops,
and crisis appointments to victims
of abuse. These services are available
free of charge to anyone who is/has
been a Primary or Secondary victim
of abuse that has no other resources
to help pay for the cost. For example,
someone with Medicaid would be referred
to the local mental health agency
to receive therapy free of charge.
Or if the individual requesting
services has insurance, they would
be referred to their insurance company
to find out what benefits they have.
If you are interested in receiving
therapy or have questions, you can
call the Child & Family Support
Center at (435) 752-8880 and ask
to speak to the Clinical Coordinator,
JaNae Sorenson, L.C.S.W. If you
are in crisis and need to meet with
a therapist immediately, call the
Child & Family Support Center
and state that you are in crisis
and need to schedule a crisis session
with a therapist. The on-call worker
can talk with you, see what your
situation is, then determine what
further assistance is needed. A
therapist will be consulted and
will schedule a Crisis appointment.
Case Scenarios:
A
victim finds out that her offender
is being released from jail. This
triggers fears and past memories.
She finds herself not being able
to concentrate, changing eating
and/or sleeping patterns, feeling
panicky, etc. She calls the Center
to request a crisis session. The
therapist and victim meet to help
find immediate things to do to help
her feel better. The interventions
may include a safety plan to ensure
safety, interventions to help the
victim stay in the present, activities
to help with relaxation, etc.
A
child just recently disclosed being
sexually abused. The child’s
parent(s) recognizes change in the
child’s behavior (i.e., sleep
disturbance, mood change, decrease
in school performance, anxiety to
be without parent, sexually reactive
behaviors, etc.). The parents can
call and request therapy. A licensed
therapist will conduct an Intake/Assessment
with the parent/s and child. A goal
will be discussed to monitor progress
and specific objectives to help
accomplish this goal. Play therapy
may be conducted where the therapist
and child (parent/s may be included
under the recommendation of the
therapist) work through the abuse
through therapeutic play activities.
A
woman in or was in a Domestic Violence
situation calls for help because
she has no self-esteem, she struggles,
being taken advantage of, has difficulty
controlling her emotions, etc. She
calls the Center. She and a therapist
discuss options of individual therapy,
the Women’s Group, or Workshops
to see what is most appropriate
for the victim. |
