Crisis/Respite Nursery
One of the most important services available at the Child & Family Support Center is our Crisis/Respite Nursery. Designed to provide a safe, homelike environment for children ages 11 and under, our Nursery has a dual mission to provide crisis childcare services along with scheduled respite care.
Crisis: Regardless of how much we love and care about our children, we all find ourselves in a position at times where we need help and don’t know where to turn. The CFSC’s Crisis Nursery is designed to provide a safe haven for children during these times of crisis, and our doors are open to families in need around the clock. As part of our mission to strengthen families and protect children, we believe that our Crisis Nursery provides parents with a nurturing, responsible choice to help them protect their children from harm when life becomes unmanageable. Examples of reasons clients utilize the Crisis Nursery include:
- Medical Emergencies
- Financial Stressors
- Divorce
- Family Violence
- Previous Abuse Issues
- Mental Health Issues
- Feeling Potential Loss of Control as a Parent
When a request for crisis care is made, parents will speak with our Nursery Coordinator or crisis line operator to coordinate the amount of time that support is needed. The Child & Family Support Center works directly with each parent to assess their needs and support them in every way possible a during crisis situation. We simply ask that at least 30 minutes’ notice be given before children are brought into the Nursery. Contact the Nursery at (435) 752-8880 for additional information. Privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times, and we adhere to the State of Utah’s guidelines for provision of licensed childcare. There is no cost for this service.
Respite: When parents take care of themselves, they are better able to care for their children. Our Respite Care program is designed to give parents a planned “time out” on a regular basis, providing them with time to do whatever they need to accomplish. After an initial intake interview is completed, an assigned time period (generally once per week) is scheduled. The intake consists of gathering information such as how we can best care for each child, allergy and medical information, behavior management strategies used by the parents and current support systems that may be in place. While in the Nursery, children are supervised by staff members and volunteers who have passed Background Criminal Investigations. Children may engage in arts and crafts activities, play in our huge backyard or enjoy the multitude of toys in the Nursery. Privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times, and we adhere to the State of Utah’s requirements for provision of licensed childcare. There is no cost for this service.
